Komodo 1,000 visitors a day cap, park fees and rules for 2026 and 2027: what it means for group bookings
Updated 8 November 2026
Since 1 April 2026 Komodo National Park admits at most 1,000 visitors a day, and every visit is booked through the SiOra system, according to the park office and the Forestry Ministry. The entrance ticket is unchanged under PP 36/2024: IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor. No fee change for 2027 had been announced by 8 November 2026.
What is in force: the 1,000 visitors a day cap
The cap took effect on 1 April 2026, after a trial from January to March, Media Indonesia reported on 30 March (republished by Metro TV). It allows at most 1,000 visitors a day, about 365,000 a year.
It covers Padar, Rinca and Komodo islands and 23 diving sites around them, ANTARA reported on 15 April, quoting Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni. The reason given is pressure on the habitat: the park counted 429,509 visitors in 2025, against a carrying capacity of 366,108 a year, ANTARA reported on 14 April, citing the Komodo National Park Office (BTNK).
How you get in has changed as much as how many. All visits now go through SiOra, the park's booking system, and that includes tour boats and cruise ships anchoring in park waters, Media Indonesia reported, quoting BTNK head Hendrikus Rani Siga.
The same report says Padar runs in three sessions, morning, afternoon and evening, of about 300 people each. We found that detail in one report only, so treat it as reported, not confirmed.
The ticket, the package and who pays what
The entrance ticket has not changed since PP 36/2024 took effect on 30 October 2024, ANTARA Kupang reported on 26 October 2024. A foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000 per person per day. An Indonesian visitor pays IDR 50,000 on a weekday and IDR 75,000 at weekends and on holidays. The ticket covers trekking, wildlife viewing and snorkelling.
The ticket is not the whole bill. We quote the park as one package per guest and trip type, which bundles the government ticket with the ranger and local levies. The package for the 3D2N and 4D3N is in the table below. It is paid separately from the boat.
For a group this means one line per nationality, not one figure for everyone. A school group of Indonesian students with two foreign teachers pays two rates, and the person collecting the money needs to know which members hold which passport.
Flying a drone in the park needs its own permit, paid separately. Ask us for the current fee before you pack one.
| Trip | Foreign guest | Indonesian guest |
|---|---|---|
| 3D2N | IDR 650,000 | IDR 350,000 |
| 4D3N | IDR 750,000 | IDR 350,000 |
One package covers the government entrance ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024), the ranger fee and the local levies. It is quoted per guest and paid on top of the boat price, unless your quote says it is included. For other trip lengths, the desk quotes the package with your booking.
| International visitors | IDR 250,000 per person per day |
| Indonesian visitors | IDR 50,000 per person per day · IDR 75,000 weekends & holidays |
Regulation: PP 36/2024 · Verified 10 October 2026.
Announced for later, and what has not been announced
The cap is not fixed forever. Deputy Forestry Minister Rohmat Marzuki said in Labuan Bajo on 24 April 2026 that the quota is dynamic and will be evaluated periodically, ANTARA and RRI reported on 25 April. He said a higher quota could be considered once work on Padar, new trekking routes and an entry and exit pier, is finished this year.
That is an intention, not a decision. We have not found an official figure for a raised quota, and we do not print one.
East Nusa Tenggara Governor Melki Laka Lena said the effects would be reviewed after three to six months, Metro TV reported on 17 April, citing ANTARA. We found no published result of that review by 8 November 2026.
On fees, we found nothing new for 2027 in any official or major news source. Groups still forward us the story of a ticket of several million rupiah. That plan dates from 2022, and the government said it would review it after protests, FORTUNE Indonesia reported on 5 August 2022. The ticket in force today is the one in the section above.
How the cap touches a group of 20
Twenty guests are 2 percent of one day's 1,000. The cap rarely shuts a single group out by size. What it does is make the date and the name list matter earlier.
Entry is registered per person. A name list with a misspelt surname, a missing passport number or a late swap is the most common way a group causes itself trouble under the new system. We use the list you send us to arrange the park entry, so send the complete list at least 7 days before departure.
The park office expected about 400,000 visits in 2026, close to 2025, ANTARA reported on 14 April. On the busiest dates the daily ceiling is more likely to bite. Fix your date early, and fix it before the flights.
We cannot hold park places for you months ahead; the system decides. What we can do is register your group as soon as your list is complete.
Rules to brief before the group lands
- Rangers lead the dragon walks. On Komodo and Rinca the group walks behind a park ranger and stays together. Closed shoes, a hat, water.
- Keep to the path on Padar. The steps are the route. Leaving them damages the slope and splits the group.
- Touch nothing on the reef. Snorkellers float; they do not stand on coral.
- Take every wrapper back to the boat.
- No drone without the permit.
Brief these at the hotel the night before, not on the pier. A group of 20 hears instructions once, at best.
None of these is new with the cap. What is new is that the park now counts every visitor by name, so a group that misbehaves is no longer anonymous. Leaders of school groups should say that sentence out loud.

What this means for your dates
For 2026 and 2027 the practical steps are the same. Choose the date first. Send us the full name list with passport or ID numbers at least 7 days before departure. Collect the park package per head as its own line.
2027 dates can be booked now on Arfisyana. The boat follows the 2026 rate card until the 2027 card appears, and if the price changes before your final payment, you hear it from us first and may cancel free.
If the park changes the quota, the sessions or the fees, we tell every booked group in writing. Until an official source says otherwise, the figures on this page are the ones that apply. Checked 8 November 2026.

FAQ
Is Komodo Island closed in 2026?
No. Komodo National Park is open, with a cap of 1,000 visitors a day since 1 April 2026, booked through the SiOra system, according to the Forestry Ministry and the park office. Padar, Rinca, Komodo and 23 diving sites fall under the cap. Checked 8 November 2026.
Does the 1,000 visitors a day limit affect groups?
A group of 20 is a small share of the daily cap, so size alone rarely matters. The date and a correct name list matter more: every guest is registered by name before entry. Fix the date early, send us the list at least 7 days before departure, and avoid late name swaps.
Do school groups need a special permit for Komodo National Park?
We found no separate group permit in official sources. Every student and teacher is registered by name like any visitor, and each pays the rate for their nationality. Your school may need its own consent forms. Send us the full list at least 7 days before departure, and we arrange the park entry from it.
How much is the entrance fee to Komodo National Park?
Under PP 36/2024, IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, and IDR 50,000 for Indonesian visitors on weekdays, IDR 75,000 at weekends and holidays. Our park package per guest bundles this ticket with the ranger and local levies, and it is paid separately from the boat.
