Four households, one boat, and nobody left on shore

Updated 8 November 2026

A whole family on one Komodo phinisi gets cabins by household. Arfisyana has 5, with elders in the Master Cabins and cousins in the Sharing Rooms. Free for children aged 0 to 2, full fare from age 3. At 20 guests each share is IDR 3,500,000 (≈ USD 215).

Send the family headcount

Extended family afloat: grandparents, parents, cousins

Three generations on one boat need a plan before anyone packs. Arfisyana gives you 5 cabins: two Master Cabins with a double bed each, and three Sharing Rooms with bunks. That is 18 standard beds, and 20 once both Master Cabins add their extra bed.

Put the oldest in a Master Cabin. The Master has a double bed rather than a bunk, and its own bathroom. The second Master Cabin takes a couple with a small child, since the extra bed makes it a room for three.

Cousins go to the bunks. Teenagers will fight over the top ones and that is not our problem to solve. The cabins page shows each room and the full count for 20.

Sea-view window, air conditioning, private bathroom: all five cabins have the set. Tell the grandparents before they ask.

Five cabins for four households: how the rooms divide

Four households rarely match five cabins neatly. Here is one split that works for 20. Grandparents take the first Master Cabin, 2 guests. A couple with a toddler take the second, 3 guests with the extra bed. A household of four takes a Sharing Room of 4. The cousins and a fourth household share the room of 6, and the last Sharing Room of 4 holds the teenagers.

That adds up to 2 + 3 + 4 + 6 + 4, which is 19, with one bed to spare. Move people until it suits you, because the arithmetic is only a starting point and every family has one relative who will not sleep above anybody else. Write the split down and send it to us, and we confirm it in writing.

Two points of honesty. Bunk beds suit children and teenagers; they do not suit every adult knee. And a Sharing Room is shared by definition, even when it is shared by relatives who love each other. Ask who snores before you assign it.

Short legs and long ones: Kelor, Padar, then the dragon trail

The standard 3D2N route mixes both kinds of day, which is good news for a family. Day one is short. The Kelor walk is a modest climb, the Manjarite snorkel is as slow as you want it, and sunset at Kalong is watched from the deck while the bats leave.

Day two is the long one. Padar at sunrise is a climb of 30 to 45 minutes for a fit adult. Then Pink Beach for the shallows, the Komodo Island ranger walk, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. Nobody is forced up. Not one person. Whoever stays aboard has the saloon, the sun deck and the bean bags.

Day three is easy: breakfast, a Kanawa snorkel and back in Labuan Bajo near 12:00.

The tender runs every landing, so a family can split. The climbers go up, the rest stay on the beach. Fix a meeting point first, and count heads at every return.

Children aged 0–2 travel free; from 3 the fare is full; life jackets aboard

A child aged 0 to 2 rides free beside a parent. At age 3 the child counts as a full guest. Tell us each child's age when you send the headcount, and we confirm the fare band in writing.

Children share a cabin with their parents. The Master Cabins take an extra bed on request, which suits one small child; the bunks suit older ones. Ask us about warm water for a toddler's bath, and we answer in writing.

Life jackets are on board, together with a life raft, lifebuoys, a fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit. What the boat does not print is a list of life jacket sizes for children, or the sizes of the snorkel gear. Ask us, and we check with the boat team before you pay.

Car seats for the drive are a question for us, not a promise. Ask, and we confirm what the pickup vehicle carries.

Heat, climbs and water: pace for the oldest and the youngest

The sun at Padar is strong by mid-morning, and shade on the climb is thin. Start early, go slowly and carry water. Pace: set it by the slowest walker, not the fastest, and take the water break at the first viewpoint whether anybody asks or not.

Of everything you pack, shoes with grip matter most. Sandals and the loose stones on the Komodo Island trail do not mix. Hats, sun cover and a refillable bottle are the rest of the list.

Afloat, the youngest swim in a life jacket, with an adult at arm's length. At Manta Point the current can run strong, so the captain decides whether a family swims. Accept that call.

None of this is medical advice. If anyone in the party has a health condition, ask their doctor about a hot, climbing day before you book. A family that plans the slow legs enjoys the fast ones more.

The family bill split: each person's share at 20, 16 or 12

The boat is one fare, divided by heads. At 20 guests on the 3D2N, each share is IDR 3,500,000 (≈ USD 215). At 16 guests it is IDR 4,060,000 (≈ USD 249), and at 12 it is IDR 5,000,000 (≈ USD 307). The table shows the other headcounts.

Watch the band edges. The fare steps up at 5, 9, 13 and 17 guests, so a party of 17 pays more per head than a party of 20. If a cousin drops out, tell us early. The band follows the final headcount.

Cost per head: the park package is paid on top, per person, and so are tips, flights and hotels. Guide and documentation stay off the fare unless you ask, and then they get their own quote.

Choose one person to collect the shares and keep one list. Families that leave the money in three different pockets end up arguing about it on the sun deck.

FAQ

When does a child become a full-fare guest?

A child aged 0 to 2 rides free beside a parent. From age 3 the child is a full guest and counts toward the fare band. Send each child's age with your headcount, and we confirm the band and the bed in writing.

Which cabins suit a family of three generations?

Grandparents suit a Master Cabin: a double bed, a private bathroom, air conditioning and a sea-view window. A parent with a small child suits the other Master Cabin with its extra bed. Cousins and teenagers fit the Sharing Rooms, which have bunk beds for 4, 6 and 4.

What does the family fare cover, and what do we pay on top?

The fare covers the whole boat, its crew, all meals, drinking water, tea and coffee, snorkel gear, towels and pickup both ways in Labuan Bajo. The park package per head, tips, flights and hotels stay outside. Guide and documentation stay off the fare unless you ask, and then they get their own quote.

Can the kitchen cook for toddlers and for grandparents on a special diet?

The chef cooks all meals. Tell us about vegetarian, halal, gluten-free or allergy needs, and we confirm them with the boat team before you pay. Be specific about the person and the food, and say who in the party is very young or very old.
