Choose the month by sea and school calendar, because the fare never moves

Updated 8 November 2026

The best time to visit Komodo with a group falls in the dry months, April to November, when the sea is kinder to 20 guests on Arfisyana. The 2026 rate card prints no seasonal split for the 3D2N: it runs from IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067) to IDR 70,000,000 (≈ USD 4,294), set by headcount alone.

Best months for a group trip: sea, heat and school holidays

Two seasons shape the year here, one dry and one wet. The dry stretch runs from about April to November, with clearer skies and a calmer sea for most of it. The wet months, from about December to March, bring cloud, rain and a rougher sea, and the captain adjusts the route by weather.

July and August are the windy peak. The sea is rougher on the open crossings, and that is when more boats are out. May, June, September and October are the steadier months for a big group, and they sit away from the busiest weeks.

Heat is constant and the climbs are hot at any time. Start early, as the Padar sunrise already forces you to.

School holidays matter for the booking more than for the weather. Indonesian school breaks fall around late June to July and again over the year end, and families travel then. A school or a company with fixed dates should ask early for a date inside those weeks, since one boat carries only one party.

Read the month table below for the sea, the heat and the crowds, month by month.

MaycalmhighfairmediumdryDry and steady. Kalong sunset is the earliest of the year, 17:49, so dinner comes early. Padar sunrise 06:07.

Padar sunrise by month: when to leave the boat

The tender lands your group before first light, so the sunrise time in the table is your deadline, not your start. Count back. The climb takes 30 to 45 minutes. Add the tender ride, the headcount at the foot of the path and a margin for the slowest walker.

Across the year the range is small but real. The latest Padar sunrise falls in July, at 06:18. The earliest falls in November, at 05:31. The difference is 47 minutes, and a group of 20 notices it at the alarm.

Cloud can hide the sunrise itself. A grey dawn still makes a good climb, and the view over the three bays does not need the sun to be exact.

Leader's rule: agree the wake-up call the night before, write it on the cabin doors, and post one person at the stairs to count heads. The sun does not wait for the last sleeper.

Kalong sunset by month: when the bats fly

The bat flight follows the sun down. The earliest sunset at Kalong falls in May, at 17:49, and the latest in January, at 18:27. The flight starts about at sunset and runs for a while, so keep the group on deck from a little before.

Across twelve months the spread is under 40 minutes, which means the dinner schedule barely moves across the year. The routine stays the same: anchor, drink water, watch the sky, eat.

Bats leave the roost in streams across the sky. In the wet months, cloud can dull the colour of the dusk, and the flight itself carries on. Rain is the only real spoiler, and it passes.

If your group is photographing, read the photo trip page for the dusk plan. If it is just watching, tell the leader to keep the deck lights low.

Does the fare change by season: the rate card says no

It does not. The 2026 rate card has no season split and no fuel line. A 3D2N for 1-4 guests costs IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067); for 17-20 guests it costs IDR 70,000,000 (≈ USD 4,294). The boat is the same in January and in August.

That makes the month a question of sea and school calendar, not of money. A school can pick the month that suits the term, and a family can pick the week the grandparents are free.

The card is dated 8 November 2026 and valid to 2026-12-31. If a date falls inside the card, the price on this site is the price we quote. The park package per head is paid on top, and so are tips, flights and hotels.

One honest limit. The card says nothing about 2027, and we do not invent figures. See the last section of this page.

Weather warnings and closed sailing: who decides, what you get

The captain and the harbour master decide whether the boat sails. You and we do not. A weather warning, an earthquake alert or a closed harbour can stop a departure, and the captain can also change stops or the anchorage once you are at sea.

If sailing is closed before you leave, the date moves or the booking terms apply. We tell you in writing, as soon as we know. If the operator cancels, a replacement of the same class or better sails on your dates, or the refund lands within 2 days.

Park closures and visitor limits are announced by the park authority, not by us. Any statement on this site about them is dated, and this page was updated on 8 November 2026. Verify before travelling, on the official notice, in the week you sail.

A group of 20 with fixed flights should leave one spare day on either side. Weather is the one thing a booking cannot control.

Booking 2027: how far ahead a school or team should ask

2027 rates are on request. The 2026 card is shown on this site, and we do not print 2027 figures until we have them in writing.

Ask early for a party of 20, and above all for a date inside the school holidays or the year end. Send the headcount and the dates you want by WhatsApp, and we check the boat live; your date is locked when the deposit lands. The hub FAQ answers the rest.

A school planning a graduation trip, or a company planning an annual outing, should send a first message months ahead. A date held by message is cheaper to move than a deposit paid in a hurry.

FAQ

Which month is calmest for a school group?

The dry stretch from April to November gives the calmer sea overall, with May, June, September and October steadier than the windy peak of July and August. Nobody can promise a calm day, and the captain adjusts the route by weather. Ask us about your term dates.

What happens if a weather warning hits our dates?

The captain and the harbour master decide whether the boat sails. If sailing is closed before you leave, the date moves or the booking terms apply, in writing. Park closure notices on this site carry a date. Check the official notice yourself in the week you sail.

How early should a group ask for the school-holiday weeks?

Months ahead for 20 guests, because one boat carries one party and the holiday weeks fill first. Send the headcount and your dates by WhatsApp, and we check the boat live; your date is locked when the deposit lands. We type no 'available' without a date and a time stamp.
