Pink Beach: land, swim, count
Updated 8 November 2026
Pink Beach for groups is a morning landing by tender on day two of the standard Arfisyana route, with a shore reef for snorkelling and sand that is pale pink in good light. Count heads at the waterline each time the tender lands.
Landing at Pink Beach: the tender, the headcount, the shade
You reach Pink Beach by the boat's tender, in waves rather than all 20 at once. Count heads at the water's edge every time the tender lands, and again when it leaves. Twenty people on a beach drift in four directions within minutes.
Treat shade as something you bring. Hats, light long shirts and a towel from the boat do more than a search for a tree. Pick a landmark on the sand as the meeting point, a rock or a log, and say it out loud before the first wave goes ashore.
This is day two of the standard route, after the Padar climb and breakfast. Legs are tired, so nobody needs a march here. The table below gives the length of the stop.
Swim and snorkel: the shore reef and the current
Reef starts near the shoreline, so a snorkeller finds fish without a long swim. The water runs from shallow to a few metres deep. The current is mild, yet a mild current still moves a tired child faster than you expect, so keep the group parallel to the beach and not heading out.
Morning water is calmer and the light softer, which is why this stop sits early on day two. Snorkel gear is on board. Weak swimmers wear a life jacket from the boat.
Pair everyone with a buddy before the first person gets wet, and write the pairs down where the whole group can read them. The buddy list is your headcount in the water, and it takes two minutes to write on the deck. It saves the longest ten minutes of the trip, the ones spent looking for a missing red hat.

Sand colour: pink in the right light, pale on other days
The sand is pink in the right light and pale on other days. Crushed red coral mixed into the sand gives the tint, so at its best the beach is a soft pink and never a bright one. Light and tide set how strong the colour looks on the day.
Tell the group the honest version at breakfast. A class that expects bubblegum pink and finds pale blush will say so loudly, while a class that expects pale and finds more is pleased. Under-promise, then let the beach do the rest.
Take the group photograph early, while the light is soft and before the beach fills. One photo, five minutes, everyone in it. After that the cameras are free to wander.
Ashore with a day bag: what stays aboard
Go ashore with a day bag, not a suitcase. Carry water, a hat, a towel from the boat and a dry bag for phones. Anything that hates sand stays aboard: spare electronics, wallets, the big bag with everything in it.
- In the bag: water, hat, towel, sunscreen, a dry bag for phones.
- In the cabin: wallets, passports, spare batteries, anything you would hate to see wet.
- On the leader: the group chat, the number, and a whistle if you own one.
One rule covers the rest. Whatever goes ashore comes back to the tender in the same hands, and the leader counts both the people and the bags.
Snorkellers need a second pile. Put the dry towels in one spot above the waterline, the wet ones in another, and name a person to guard each. It sounds like fuss for a beach morning, yet it spares you twenty people hunting for one towel when the tender is ready to leave.
FAQ
Is Pink Beach on every route length?
No. Pink Beach sits on day two of the standard 3D2N, and on the same day of the 2D1N and 4D3N samples. The one-day sample goes to Kelor, Rinca and Manjarite instead, so it skips Pink Beach. Choose at least one night aboard if the beach is on your list.
