Landing in Indonesia with a group: the four checks before you book flights
Updated 8 November 2026
First time in Indonesia with a Komodo group trip means four checks for the leader: visas, flights into Labuan Bajo, money for up to 20 people and a health plan. Each section says what to verify before travelling, dated 8 November 2026.
Visas for a group: who checks what before landing
Every traveller answers for their own entry rules, and the leader cannot do it for them. Visa rules change by nationality and by year. Some passports enter on a visa on arrival, some on an e-visa, and some need a visa from home.
Ask each person to check the official Indonesian immigration site before booking flights. Ask them also to check that the passport is valid for the period the rules require, which is commonly six months beyond arrival. A passport that fails this check at the airport ends a trip.
The leader's job is the list. Collect one name list as it appears on passports or ID, with nationality and passport validity beside each name, and send it to us about a week before sailing. A mixed group of 20 can hold five nationalities and two kinds of visa, and the list shows it at a glance.
Verify before travelling. This page was written on 8 November 2026 and entry rules move faster than any guide.
| Visa on Arrival (VoA) | Open to nationals of 97 listed countries, including most of Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Japan, South Korea, China, India and the Gulf states. Other nationalities apply in advance at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. |
|---|---|
| e-VoA | The same 30-day visa, applied for online before you travel at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Once approved, you must enter within 90 days. |
| VoA / e-VoA price | IDR 500,000 per person; children pay the same. Fees can change, so check the official site before you fly. |
| Length of stay | 30 days from the day you arrive, single entry |
| Extension | Once, by 30 days (60 days in total), for IDR 500,000. Apply at an immigration office about a week before the first 30 days end. |
| Visa-free entry | 30 days, not extendable, for citizens of ASEAN countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. |
| Passport | Valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with at least 2 blank pages |
| Onward ticket | Proof of a return or onward ticket is required for a VoA |
| All Indonesia arrival card | Free and compulsory. Fill it in within 72 hours before arrival at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or in the app; it covers immigration, customs and the health declaration. |
| Arriving in Labuan Bajo | Most visitors clear immigration in Bali, Jakarta or Surabaya and reach Labuan Bajo on a domestic flight |
| Bali tourist levy | IDR 150,000 per foreign visitor if you enter through Bali, paid at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. It is separate from the visa fee. |

Flights for 20 passengers: touch down in Labuan Bajo the day before
Groups fly to Labuan Bajo; the boat is the trip, not the transport. The airport is the gateway, and most groups connect through Bali or Jakarta. A day trip from Bali is not part of this charter, so route yourselves through Labuan Bajo the night before.
Arrive the day before sailing. The standard 3D2N picks up between 10:00 and 11:00 and sails at 11:00, and a flight that lands at breakfast time is a gamble with twenty bags. A missed departure costs far more than one extra hotel night.
Twenty people rarely fly on the same plane. Ask everyone to send the flight number and arrival time, and fix one meeting point at the hotel. The pickup from hotel or airport is included, both ways, and we confirm the exact time in writing.
For the return, the 3D2N docks near 12:00 on day three. Book a flight after that, with margin. Verify schedules and fares before travelling; they change.
| Airport | Komodo International Airport, code LBJ |
|---|---|
| Usual connections | Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB); Lombok and Kupang are smaller feeders |
| Flight time to Labuan Bajo | From Bali about 1 h 10 min to 1 h 20 min; from Surabaya about 1 h 30 min; from Jakarta 2 h 30 min to 3 h; from Lombok about 1 h |
| Airlines | Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink and Indonesia AirAsia from Bali and Jakarta; Super Air Jet from Surabaya; Wings Air on the shorter island routes. Schedules change, so check before you book. |
| Airport to the harbour | 2 to 3 km, about 10 minutes by car |

Money for the group: ATMs, cards and the cash you carry
Indonesia runs on cash outside the big hotels. Labuan Bajo has ATMs. Withdraw in town before the boat, not on the pier, and do not count on a machine being full. Cards work in some shops and restaurants and not on the boat.
One shared bank card is a bad idea for a group. A single frozen card, a daily limit or a lost wallet then stops 20 people. Spread the cash across three or four people, in small notes.
What you pay us goes by bank transfer, card link, PayPal or EDC, with the fee percentages shown on the booking page. What you pay on the day is smaller: tips in small notes, a few purchases ashore, and the park package where it is not already settled. The park fee page explains the package.
Cost per head: keep one sheet of what each person owes, and settle it before the trip, not on the sun deck. Verify exchange rates and ATM limits before travelling.
| Currency | Indonesian rupiah (IDR); about IDR 16,000 to 16,500 to the US dollar and IDR 17,500 to 18,000 to the euro in mid-2026 |
|---|---|
| ATMs | BCA, Mandiri, BNI and BRI on Jl. Soekarno-Hatta near the harbour and at airport arrivals; none in the national park or on the islands. Take cash before you board. |
| ATM limits | IDR 1,250,000 to 3,000,000 per withdrawal; a local fee of about IDR 25,000 to 50,000, plus your own bank's charges |
| Cards or cash | Cards work at hotels, dive centres, boat companies and larger restaurants, often with a surcharge of 2 to 4 per cent. Small eateries, markets, taxis and small shops take cash. |
| Tipping | Appreciated, never compulsory. In restaurants 5 to 10 per cent when no service charge is added; for a boat crew, IDR 50,000 to 100,000 per guest per day is a common range. |

Health for the group: vaccines, medicines and insurance
Health advice is for doctors, and we are not doctors. Each traveller should see their own doctor or a travel clinic well before the flight, and ask about vaccines and medicines for Indonesia.
Carry your own medicines. Pharmacies in Labuan Bajo stock the basics, and they will not have the specific brand your colleague takes every morning. Keep prescriptions in the hand luggage, not in the bag that goes into the hold.
A first-aid kit is on board, with life jackets, a life raft, lifebuoys and a fire extinguisher. Tell us about any condition that matters for a climbing, swimming and sailing trip, and we pass it to the boat team. Seasickness is covered in the guide on who sleeps where.
Travel insurance is not part of the fare. Each person arranges their own, and the leader should ask for the policy name before sailing. Verify requirements and cover before travelling.
| Insurance | Travel insurance with medical cover and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended; add dive cover if you dive |
|---|---|
| Private hospital | Siloam Hospitals Labuan Bajo, Jl. Gabriel Gampur, +62 385 2440 666; it has a hyperbaric chamber |
| Public hospital | RSUD Komodo, Labuan Bajo, with an emergency unit; no hyperbaric chamber |
| Pharmacies | Available in town with a limited range; bring prescription medicines and sunscreen from home |
| Emergency numbers | 112 general; 118 or 119 medical; 110 police; 115 search and rescue |
| Health risks | Dengue, chikungunya and malaria are present, so protect yourself against mosquito bites. Rabies exists in dogs and monkeys: seek care at once after a bite. |

FAQ
Can a group do Komodo as a day trip from Bali?
Not on this charter. Arfisyana sails from Labuan Bajo, so groups fly to Labuan Bajo and sleep there the night before. The boat is the trip, and it sails on the route you book: one day, two, three or four. Ask us if you want to compare the routes.
Is it cheaper for a group to fly or to sail to Komodo?
Groups fly to Labuan Bajo, and the boat is the trip, not the transport. Flights are the cost of arriving; the charter fare is the cost of the days afloat, split by headcount. The journal has a decision table for groups that sets the options side by side.
Is the route a round trip, or does it end in Lombok?
Round trip from Labuan Bajo. The standard 3D2N starts at the Labuan Bajo port and returns there near 12:00 on day three. There is no Lombok leg on this charter, so book flights in and out of Labuan Bajo itself.
